Benchmark

We recorded some new songs yesterday. While they may not be as tight as they need to be, it does show that we are progressing as a band. These are the songs we have written thus far.

  1. In the Pocket
  2. Randy’s Song
  3. Footloose
  4. Running Through the Desert Naked
  5. The Airplane Song
  6. The Surf Song
  7. The Mellow Song
  8. Harmonica Song

finding the benchmark

I probably should post an update about the 5th benchmark. I have faith that we have found them, but I don’t exactly know which one it is. It’s down to Emily, Zack, and Bradley. They all have their pros and cons which makes it difficult to figure out.

  • Emily has the best voice, but self admittedly lacks in the lyric writing (we have yet to see anything).
  • Bradley has the most drive, the best lyrics, and potentially the worst voice.
  • Zack is the most well rounded out of all of them.

We have to figure it out once I get back from San Francisco.

Waiting On Lasagna

This is a little ditty that I recorded while microwaving some Lean Cuisine type dish. This really shows the power of GarageBand, or at least my use for it. I can write something, record it almost instantly without tools getting in the way. I’m starting to live with imperfections in recordings. It’s better to write something and polish it later than it is to let perfection get in the way of progress. This is my polite way of saying, “It’s not perfect, deal with it.”

Chris Millar – Waiting On Lasagna

As a side note, I’m still debating whether or not this is a benchmark’s song, or a song for myself. With the lead guitar in it, it’s more like a benchmark song, but the original intent was for it to just be a simple acoustic song, hence the rhythm parts.

Clean Spring

I think my first day of spring was a few weekends ago when Lindsey and I went and shot rockets with her friends. I feel like today was the second day of spring where I got to ride my scooter, and Josh and I played tennis. Tomorrow is riding to work with Gentoo.

I am going to be ridiculously active this spring/summer. I think I’m off to a good start.

Randy, Matt, and Trevor cleaned our practice room, and while it may not look that clean here, it looks infinitely better than it used to…
